Black TV Tuesday

Our Kind of People, Naomi, Queens, Abbott Elementary, Kings of Napa, black-ish, Grand Crew, and This is Us. Much ado is being made about these shows all airing on Tuesday: each showing a different dimension of Blackness and genre.

We are in the final season of black-ish, and if the Michelle Obama cameo is any indication, it has every intention on going out with a bang. The same is true with This is Us: it is set to end after this season and I understand Deja is taking us through it. Will you tune in to see how these shows wrap?

Our Kind of People is set end its season on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. The story has been building toward a climax, which I hope is explosive. More, I hope that people discover this show on HULU and get it renewed for season 2. The next time we talk about it, we plan on it being a spoiler filled- episode where discuss it from tip to tail.

Queens, like Our Kind of People, provides soapy drama. The music is great, and they continue to find storylines that pull from the headlines in an entertaining way. It also airs on HULU, so for those people who wrote it off too quickly, I hope they give it another chance.

Abbott Elementary, Grand Crew, Naomi, and Kings of Napa are the newest entries on Tuesday night. Naomi is a teenaged girl who is learning her power. Grand Crew is about a group of friends who recap their week over a glass of wine, Abbott Elementary breaks the fourth wall and finds the heart and humor of the challenges of teachers in public schools. Kings of Napa is pure soap: it centers on the King family who owns a vineyard. When the head of the family dies unexpectedly, secrets are exposed, agendas are revealed, and a mystery begins. The fashions are fantastic, but this show needs time and space to grow: I hope it is allowed that latitude on OWN.

Black TV Tuesday is trending on twitter, but I hope that buzz translates to viewers. I know that there has been a community hole left by Insecure; it is only partially filled by Euphoria, what do you have room in your for?

We are building community around Naomi and the character of Natalie on Superman and Lois, by live tweeting using the hashtag #SuperNaomi. We invite to join us and catch these shows live or streaming the next day.
